Default Decel pop, losing my mind....

I'm at my wit's end here with my 03 Super Glide. I've got serious decel pop, I mean like machine gun fire especially rolling downhill. I've tweaked the carb mixture and it doesn't matter if it's rich or lean, I've even tested it going from 6,000 ft to 3,000 ft to 9,000 ft in elevation...no change. I've checked for leaks in the exhaust and intake and I can't seem to find any. I've look all over the web and most people have a solution, but for a fuel injected bike, not for a carbureted one. I get that some decel pop is normal on a properly tuned bike, but this is just ridiculous...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Decel popping and burbling is created by fresh air mixing with unburnt fuel from the engine under off-throttle situations; when the air/fuel ratio is right it burns off in the hot pipes.

With no exhaust leaks I'd start by looking at your throttle adjustments. Riding style, as in not completely closing the throttle, or having your throttle cables too tight can give you excessive decel popping even with a properly setup carb.

Another option would be to use TTI's in the pipes to help prevent the reversion of fresh air in to the exhaust off-throttle. I've used TTI's on my carbed bikes with success and never experienced decel popping or burbling.

I'd start with your throttle cable adjustments and confirm the throttle is indeed completely closing. I'd also look at the enrichener cable to be certain it is fully closing...

I moved from Denver. When I was living there I bought my 13 from your dealer, but from their Frederick location.

Anyway, I put my current V&H Straight shots on, Arlen Ness big sucker II. It would pop and fart, snap, sh#t and what ever else the liberal altitude would throw at it at decel.

Finally added the Vance and Hines Fuel Pak 3 and wa-la! NO MORE DECEL POP

Simple. Pay to play. Get results. Im happy now.

The FP3 is a cool device, but his bike is carbureted.

Unfortunately not an option with a carbureted bike

By TTI do you mean the torque tunder inserts?

On a carbed bike exhaust popping is either ignition or exhaust leaks, period!

If you have no issues with missing in cruise or acceleration, then it is the exhaust causing the popping. My guess is one of 3 things:

1) You have removed the baffles so air is being sucked into the empty cans and acting like a leak. Or

2) There is a crack in one or both exhaust pipes. Or

3) You're running pipes with a tap for an o2 sensor that is letting air in. Or not using the correct gasket if the single pipes have a crossover.

These guesses are assuming you replaced the exhaust gaskets already and made sure the pipes are seated fully into the correct gaskets.
