Im likin 65, feels fast and my neck doesnt hurt the next day. I got a new Nightster 2 weeks ago and it sounds pretty wound out at 80mph. I dont have a tach but sometimes Im in the mood to cruise faster but I dont know if she has it in her. Am I being paranoid? How fast can I cruise without hurting my new baby?
From: Cleveland, Ohio (how do I put up with this place?)
RE: What's your favorite speed?
One interesting note: Wind pressure or "force" will square the difference from 55 to 75mph. That means that whats pushing your face at 55mph is more than 4 times greater at 75mph. Even with a full face helmet my Bandit was a pain in the neckat 80mph, the fairing didn't seem to do much until I was over 100.
Now, my cousin would be fine on his RK at 80mph with the big windscreen; this was easy justification when it came to getting my new bike. I don't have a "favorite speed" just yet, but the salesman said that 6th gear was for over 65mph. The next long trip should be a confortable one, the QD windshield seems to work just fine.
Back country roads in Texas I cruise about 45 to 50, depending on traffic and the hills. My WG is a 5 speed and the gap between 4th and 5th is huge, so I tend to stay in 4th and wind it alot. I absolutely cannot do anything below 55 in 5th unless it's level ground or it lugs. My riding buddies tend to go fast, so in order to keep up, I probably go faster than I would like. Personally, I would rather putt along than scream through the scenery.
Dusk riding is bad because of deer, so I slow waaaay down if we get stuck out at dusk.
