Hello all this is my first Harley it is a 2002 fxd super glide 88ci has 28k miles an I'm wanting to change out the cams without doing any top end work just want to be able to swap cams an be done also would like to swap out the lifters an push rods if I need to I'm not to sure what all would I need to do this without touching top end any help will help thanks
If you're bound and determined to avoid removing the tank, upper rocker covers & rocker support plate you're gonna need a pair of bolt cutters and some adjustable push rods. I wouldn't consider that "the top end". The heads and lower rocker boxes stay on and you can update the breathers to the newer style very cheap. You can also enlarge the oil return hole in the rocker support plates. I'd swap the shoes in the spring tensioners to Cyco. Pick a lifter of your choice and re-use the solid push rods.
All of that can be done pretty cheap. What part of Ohio?
Been doing a lot of research on this subject myself due to needing to replace the cam chain tensioners. And since I am in there, might as well do a cam upgrade since it is almost the same amount of work.
Are new lifters necessary?
I agree with Nomadmax, pulling the tank, upper rocker covers and support plate isnt top end work, Top end work to me is pulling the head and/or cylinders off. This is what I plan to do. I just want to fix the tensioners, give the bike a little more pep, and keep it reliable.
No I'm ok with removing the tank heads an stuff like that to put everything in I was talking about pistons an ri g an stuff like that I'm looking for what all I need to swap cams an lifters any thoughts on a set of cams an is it worth swapping to gear driven cams instead of chain an I'm from northeast Ohio
OK... Andrews 37 cams, go gears and go with adjustable push rods since you'd have to if you switch lifters. Oh yeah... Oil pump too!
So yes replace them too, should be at the most 1200$ or less with a good indy.
I just did that a year ago.
Ok yea I found a set of s&s 510 gear cams s&s adjustable pushrod s&s hydraulic lifters all for around 900 is the oil pump necessary to change out with everything
I would, since you are already in the chest, might as well replace it. Especially with the milage. Also ad a k&n filter if you haven't already done so. You'll see a noticeable increase in power and overall tone of your exhaust system too.

I have a S&S 510 cams removed from my 2003 FXDWG. They are in perfect condition, but I reused the outer gears when I installed my new 585G cams.
