Default first ride with windshield and need advice

Took my first ride tonight after installing my Memphis Shades Fat 17" windshield on my '06 Superglide and not happy. At 70mph my full face helmet began to shake. There was alot of air coming up under the windshield and it seemed like some coming around the windshield too.

I had riden several miles Sunday on a freewayat 75 mph without windshield and it wasn't bad at all, but still want a windshield for debris protection on the freeway.

So my question is, what can I do help the turbulence?

1) Lowers and do they block enough wind tolet the engine run hotter than it already does?
2) Small bag under headlight?
3) I have seen something here called a Windvest, I think. Does it work, how much to buy and contact?

What have you done to help with turbulence, etc?????

Thanks,

Larry

Not sure how much adjustment the memphis has, but you gotta play around with positioning.

The windvest is another aftermarket windshield, just of a different style. Mine has enough wind underneath to rip my stocking cap off at 65 mph.

Anything to block wind from coming underneath will help a ton.

No experience with lowers, but others will chime in.

There's another chap around here selling an actual vest which many do use and like. Check over on the left for Jack's Flaps Aerovest.

Keep in mind that you'll never get rid of all turbulence unless you add a roof and doors.

I have Memphis Shades lowers with my MS Fats 19". I've tested with and without the lowers, and they make a big difference on the amount of air coming at your waist. They don't seem to affect engine cooling at all, and they look really good, I think.

I have had the same problem with the harley windshield.
I raise the tank with with 2" tank lift the air flows under tank.
ThenI kick bottom of shield out I had to play with that to get it likeI wanted.
Then I put a leather bag in the windshield to block some of the air around the headlight.
There is something I would Like to try next is a air block behind the headlight.
This has slow downthe eye blurr.

I have the Memphis Slims and get a little buffetting, but it is not to bad.
I do have a 2 1/4" tank lift, a bag that blocks wind from around the headlight and lowers.
What height is your shield at? The rule of thumb is top is to be same level as your nose.

On the dynalowrider we do have the bolt hole in the side of tripe trees. It would put the shields closer to the bike rider.

Same problem on my 07 Fat Boy.
Jacks flap vest solved the wind under the helmet issue.
I did not like the way the lowere looked on my bike.

Fat boy has the holes and also air block behind headlight. The dyna class bike are open behind the headlight for air to flow.

UPDATE - Put the windshield/tool bag under the headlight before my ride to work today and it definately helped. Much better than last night!!! The windshield is about as high as the tip of my nose. I will move it up a little and try that. I want to only use the windshield when freeway riding, so getting lowers and taking them off when the windshield is off would take a little longer, but if they help, it is worth it!!

Where is the best place to get lowers?

Thanks,
Larry

Larry, have you played with the angle of the windshield? I had a Fats on a Wide Glide and found that I got the best wind protection with the windshieldas uprightas possible. Unfortunately, the bike got pushed aroundquite a lotwith it like this startingaround70mph. The handling problems went away with the windshield laid back some, but so did the wind protection. I gave up on the Fats and put a Rio Grande on, almost as much wind protection and no handling issues. IMO, the Fats is too flat...if it was curved a little more, it would work better.
