Default Battery Cover question

Hi, just trying to wrap my head around this....I am looking at replacing the stock black battery cover on my Switchback with one similar to the dyna super-glide custom one. (Black with chrome band shown below).

Problem is that it says in the Harley catalog, does not fit FLD.

Am I wrong in thinking all these battery covers SHOULD be the same? My SwBk does not have ABS so there is really nothing I can see that would be different then any of the other dynas. I was at the dealer today and he had a Switchback and a Fat Bob on the floor, both were 2012 and the battery covers looked the exact same.

Before I order one, (since I can't return it) I was wondering if anyone else has installed this one on their bike and if they think it will fit the SwBk.
Thanks

Check with the parts dept at the dealership?

On my FXDL, I pulled the hoky trim piece off and then bolted up a bad&g toolbag on my battery cover. Works great for tools & stuff.

I did....they only go by what the parts and accessories catalog says...no real help there.

I checked on line and one of the Chrome replacement covers says all dynas including the FLD so again I am at a loss...

Have any friends with Dynas? See if they'll let you check fitment with theirs. Or maybe hit up a bike night and see if someone will let you test.

Not what year bike you have but by your post I'm guessing 2012 ... parts search for battery cover shows a different part number between the Super Glide and the Switchback ... by that I would say they may not interchange ... not sure what the difference actually is ... I used Ronnie's for my search

Ride your bike to the dealership and ask if you can borrow a cover and see if it fits. Just a simple screw so shouldnt be an issue if they sell used bikes.

I know, it is plain I've been looking for something for a while. Check the FLD site, I think someone has surely done it. Still love the Switchback, 22,000 and going. Of course it landing on my leg and broke it in Nov. but hey out of the cast into a walking boot.

ok, so I was finally able to figure this out. The weather was good enough yesterday that I was able to get into my storage area and look at my bikes ( both are 2012's, Switchback & Superglide custom).

I took the battery cover off of my SGC and put it onto the SwBk. It fit no problem. I had a good look at both covers, size and shape there is no difference at all. The only difference is on the SGC cover, there are two holes in it to attach the chrome band. The Swbk cover is solid, it does not have these holes. Other wise both covers are identical.

So back to the P&A catalog I go... after much searching and looking at things this is what I came up with in order to create the black and chrome version of this cover (like in the 1st pic)...

1. You can use the stock FLD cover and drill the holes to fit the chrome band or

2. replace the cover and add the band. If you are going this route then you need the following part #'s

66366-06 Blk Battery Cover $46.99 or less
66439-07 Chrome Battery cover band. $33.95 or less

Since my cover is a little beat up, I am going to order new parts...

Just thought id close this thread off at least with a solution.

Interesting. Would you have a pic available? My tool pouch on my shield stays full.
