Default Dyna men to the rescue!!!

The delima-One of my club brothers recently purchased a 2017 Fat Bob. Wifey says the 2001 Dyna Low rider Must Go Right Now! (Oh lucky day) but, he's 5ft 6in 170lbs(w/ bricks in hus pockets) & Im 6ft 3in 300plus lbs(so, I got big bones, Dont Judge Me) Question is - how to I transform this beauty from a lil guys Low Ride-to A Big Dawgs Boss Hogg?

Suspension front and rear. Forward Controls and taller bars. You might be able to trade your mid controls for forwards. Suspension can get expensive real quick.

This exactly. If you can't find someone on here to swap controls with, check craigslist....got mine for 200. I'd avoid a floorboard kit but that's me. Had boards on my old street Bob and I just can't stretch out the way I can with forwards. Suspension can be an expensive upgrade and you don't want to cheap out and have to buy something else. I have 16 inch apes and they're perfect for me.

You can always get a taller seat. I know HD makes the tall boy, but there's so many aftermarket options out there like mustang or Corbin. With shocks, everyone seems to be going with ohlins and they seem to make a great product. You'll have to do your research and read reviews to get a better idea of what would be best for you. Don't forget to search the threads on products you may be interested in and of course if you have any questions just ask.

You're going to spend some money for sure, but you'll end up with a beautiful ride. Lepara makes a nice Daytona seat for extended reach that you can find for around $300. Forward controls will be another $300 plus some labor. Those two things will get you fitted on the bike. Once there you'll need to put some miles on to see if you're good with handlebar fitment. The bike itself will easily carry 300lbs as it sits, but you'll have to crank up some preload on the rear.

DOWN THE ROAD, you'll want to get different springs in the front to improve braking and the overall ride quality due to where you live. The same goes with the rear shocks but for ride quality only. For now you will be able to live with the stock components.

Just remember... ANY Harley that you buy (brand new or used) is only a blank slate. You'll always dump more money than you think. (or intended to do) If the price is right on that bike, it's so worth it to do.

What kind of money is your buddy asking and how many miles? Is the maintenance up to date?

Check out traxion dynamics, they sell I believe hyper pro and ohlins. He say the hyper pro ride better and have had customers complain about the new ohlins and he swamps them out for the hyper and hasn’t had a complaint yet. Plus they are cheaper. He’s an easy guy to deal with as well.

Corbin seat normally scoot you back 1.5-2” so the should help with reach to the bars and give you better leg room. BMC also has seat that move you back and will custom make you one that moves the sitting area back as fat as you like.

Bars are so dependent on what one likes for hand position that that is a hard one to speak on. Then you have the looks, with apes you can roll them forward some and add room and order them to have your hands at the height you like. With apes I personally like them rotated froward enough to where they are at 90* to the road. You seat will also help with the bar location.

Really you need to see how long your legs are and what’s comfortable and do seat and pegs to help with that and then do bars based on where you seating position ends up.

Just my 2cents

That looks like a pretty cushy seat. I'd do the forward controls and taller bars then see where that puts you. The exception might be if you plan to do T or drag bars where you can't adjust the reach after changing them. In that case you will want to do the seat first so that you can get the proper measurements for the bars.
