I removed the tank & bars, traced wires everywhere I could and found nothing pinched. I didn't even see anything that looked worn. I'm gonna do some more digging, but I am gonna take it to the HD dealership Friday. So far it's the only thing I've had take it somewhere to have it fixed. Stupid wiring gremlins!!
What is the battery voltage static and under load?
What is the reg/rec output when the symptoms are present?
Have you checked BOTH ends of the ground?
No need to give up yet.
I have not checked some of those yet. I don't know for sure that my volt meter can be trusted. It has some issues of it's own. As far as the ground, I cleaned both ends of the negative cable. What do you mean by the reg/rec output?
Regulator /rectifier (reg/rec). This unit changes AC Voltage to DC Voltage (rectifier) and regulates the DC voltage to the battery. The battery drives the voltage on a HD not the Alternator and the battery voltage must remain a constant at a given rpm. Say 13.2v at idle and 14.2v above 2200 rpm, those numbers apply to my 02 SuperGlide, yours may be different but the reg/rec works the same. Can you borrow a dependable meter from a friend and check your charging system.
Especially important to test when the speedo acts up. Sometimes a reg/rec won't start over/under charging until it's hot.
Check battery voltage.
Check battery voltage with starter engaged to start the bike.
AGM batteries are slightly different but this will suffice for rough work.

Voltage coming back to the battery when the speedo is acting up.

So it was the regulator. I should be getting a new one this week.
I figured that was it when you said it happened when the bike got warmed up. The battery may have taken a beating as well; do a static and load test on it to insure. Take this one last tip from me for what it's worth. I NEVER replace an a stator or regulator with anything but Cycle Electric.

** Just an official "fixed" update, I replaced the voltage regulator with a new Cycle Electric from Lowrbow, and there is no more weird speedometer trouble! Thanks to all who helped with this, I really appreciate it!
Also, I found what seems to be a really reliable voltmeter (so far). I'll put the link below.
