I bought the wife a 2018 FXBB (her choice of bike). Now I have to make it so she fits on the bike (stands 5' with her riding boots on). So-I look for a lowering kit-there is one for the forks, none for the rear (new mono-shock design). After fighting get the free spanner wrench that is used to adjust the pre-load on the shock (I guess it's so new not all the salespeople know about it) I adjusted the pre-load all the way down. I need to get her the reduced reach seat and I will still need to lower the bike.
The fork spring lowering kit will (according to the product details) lowers the front of the bike around 1". Normally I would lower the front and rear the same amount to maintain the bike's geometry, stance, and weight distribution (yes normally, this is the third bike I have lowered for her). I am concerned that not lowering the rear the same amount and moving her forward in the saddle will shift center of balance forward and cause the rear wheel to lift during braking.
I do not trust the salesman, parts department, or service department at the dealer to answer this question. I can call the customer support line, but am hoping that someone more knowledgeable than I will be able to answer this question here-I am sure I am not the only person wanting to do this...
You'll probably get better answers by posting in the Softail section. Her bike is not a Dyna.
Thanks. It's in both. You'd be surprised the number of "pros" who will tell you it's a dyna. Likely because the 2017 had the external spring-over dual shocks...

Not a Dyna and somewhat of a sore subject here hehe
I was with my friend last week at the dealer when he bought the same bike. Sales guy just said "you can adjust the preload" which isn't going to work very well. I think it would ride like crap. A guy from parts came over with a parts catalog and said Harley makes a spring to replace the mono which would lower it .75". Not sure if this is true but this is what they said, maybe to just sell another bike...
The spring is just not as wide in circumference, its not shorter. I've been saying for awhile with the monoshock you cannot lower a 2018 softail bike. I would look at lowering blocks, hopefully they will work.
Being a short person, my salesperson told me I would not be able to lower the new bikes like I did with my sporties and dyna.
