Perhaps I read too much. I'm finding a lot of complaints about the front motor mounts on dynas deteriorating due to oil changes. Is this problem limited to specific years or across the board? Info on preferred mounts seems to lean towards predator, whereas everything else is fairly vague. Anyone care to opine?
Don't know if there is an issue, but after working on cars most of my life I know that oil and mounts do not play well together. I generally pressure wash my entire bike after I service it to ensure no oil is left on my bike
Getting oil on the mount can cause problems with the rubber. There is an easy solution- clean it off after you change the oil!
Another issue is when the front mount is not installed correctly at the factory, which can lead to premature wear. That is also easy to correct by shimming the mount and aligning it.
Aftermarket mounts like Predator and Sputhe will help tighten up handling. If you're happy with the way the bike rides and handles you will be fine with the stock mount.
Ive always cleaned my mount after oil changes and it didnt stop it from needing to be replaced. Just one of those things that come with the territory.

Yep; that contaminated oil will degrade the rubber of the OEM isolator and with the Dyna, it's very difficult not to get some on it during oil filter removals.
The only way to be certain to never get any oil on the isolator is to relocate the oil filter

Did you replace with OEM parts or aftermarket ? And if aftermarket, which?
Theres a special funnel made for Evo's and possibly Twin Cams called "Gregs Drip Free Oil Change Funnel". Its available in all the catalogs, it's sort of a flat, orange plastic thing that slips under the oil filter so nothing drips down on the motor mount. It works great, just FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS, its very simple. Just replaced both mounts on my '98 Dyna. Stock on rear, Predator up front. Rear one was a pain in the **** to replace, front wasn't too bad.
It doesnt help the stock motor mount takes a beating from the rear swing arm trying to hold the bike in alignment either, and thats why these bikes really kill OEM mounts fast aside from the rubber getting saturated by oil.
Buy the Vibra-technics predator mount and forget about killing a motor mount. Although its still wise to protect it too while changing the oil.

This is the route I took; the Predator up front; money very well spent. And, to keep any chance of oil getting on the bike/mount during oil filter removals, I relocated the oil filter to the left downtube. With the oil filter relocated, you never spill one drop of oil
