Is there any reason to be suspicious about purchasing a left over bike?

If it's brand new, it's new. No conspiracy. There are always previous model-year holdovers for any type of new-vehicle dealer, including HD. Some of the showroom bikes may have a few scratches from all the dreamers that mounted them, but if that's the case they can polish it out for you.

I would add, look at the build month, if it's an early production for the year try and get them throw a battery in it. Mine had been sitting at the dealer for over 9 months before I bought it, battery was crap from being run dead who knows how many times.

I bought a left over. And got it a little better than msrp in 06 and that was a big accomplishment back then because hey didn't come off of prices at that time

My fiancé bought a leftover sportster a couple years back. Leftover harleys aren’t the same as leftover food, they don’t “go bad”. They’re usually cheaper because everybody wants the new models. I’d agree with having them replace the battery but then again you get 2 years of warranty anyway.

My FXDLS was the demo bike last year. Had 200 miles on it already, which I'm sure were not easy miles.

But they gave me 1,000 off and I'm happy as a clam. No troubles.

Same thing happened to me. Bought my bike new almost exactly a year ago. The battery took a dump almost immediately even though they said that they charged the batteries on the showroom bikes "monthly". I expressed concern over the battery before purchasing the bike. They ended up sending me up a new battery in short order.

Bought a leftover 14 FXDF in Feb of 16.
0 miles, was still crated.
$13.5 OTD. By my math with taxes and such I think I got about 4K off new.
I did put a battery in it after one year.

My buddy went to our local dealer with plans to buy a new 18 road king special, turns out they had a leftover 17 model sitting there that had only been in stock a month or 2, he ended up getting like 2500 off msrp plus they threw in a detachable sissy bar, some shirts and hats and a few other freebies.

I certainly must have been at the wrong dealer. I did get a fair deal. 2000 off msrp but that's it. Tried for a new batt because it was on the charger when I got there. No go not even a t shirt. To excited to do a proper inspection.bad choice. When I got it home I found the bike kind of dirty and then I noticed the front fender and tire offset. Pretty lousy experience for my first new bike buying experience.
