Disregarding length...

There are three axle diameters: 3\4", 25mm, & 1"(25.4mm).

Two were used on the small diameter (39mm & 41mm) forks: 3/4 & 1.

Two were used on the larger diameter (49mm) forks: 1" & 25mm.

The 49mm sliders will accept either large diameter axle but the bearings are different.

That .4mm (.016") really does make a difference. A 1" bearing will slide easily over a 25mm axle and may even seem OK, but it isn't correct.

As far as measuring goes, I suggest buying a set of calipers and a tape measure.

Measure the distance between the centers of the forks. That will determine if it's narrow, mid, or wide.
Measure the diameter of the tubes. That will determine the year range.

After that, let us know and we can tell you the model. Then you can order from any catalog.

If this legit, post the link to online Photo(s). If it's an Original Harley frontend and the photo(s) are Not Terrible, it should be pretty easy to identify.
