I broke a lot of steel bolts that had corroded into their respective Aluminum thread holes while tearing down for my rebuild/restoration. (see bastardglide 103 build thread if you're interested)
I start putting it all back together next week but I want to be sure I've gotten all the old locktite/corrosion out of the thread holes so every bolt has a clean thread surface once again.
Ive been informed that just running the fasteners in and out doesn't really clean up threads and will just compress any crud into the hole, so without having a proper thread chasing kit, whats the best way to clean stuff out?
I know you said you wanted it cheap, but I suggest you pick up some new bolts, preferably hardened so at least you know you have perfect threads and not something that was kicking around a junk draw for a few years. Shouldn’t cost much.
If push comes to shove and you have a gun cleaning kit. Run one of your copper cleaning brushes through. But if you are going to play in the big boy world. Buy a nice set of thread chasers. You'll be happier in the long run

Nice suggestion, fortunately I have a complete set of motor and tranny bolts taken from a same year model wrecked wide glide that had less than 1000 miles on it when it was scrapped.

Hopefully it'll be another 5 - 7 years before i have to tear it down again
