I just bought my bike and it has about 700km on it (its a 2015). I plan on taking it to the dealer for the 1500km first service, however I want to do a quick oil change now because the oil light is on.
Is it ok to use any type of 20W50 oil? I know there are oils branded for motorcycles but they are quite expensive. I am not looking for a big oil debate, just some quick guidance. Keep in mind the oil will be changed again in another 800km or so.
Motorcycle specific oil has additives for the type of abuse it will see in an air cooled, large bore motor. Spend the extra $20 for Vtwin specific oil. If you dont want to go synthetic, and you dont care about the +/- of each type...get a name brand VTwin oil. The HD oil is respectable,

Thanks,
when is the oil light on. all the time?
mobil 1 vtwin 20w50 is sitting in walmarts and auto parts stores for you.
pretty sure you would have been mad/confused if you went through the oil change only to see that light on again. lol
Thanks! The bike didnt come with an owners manual so this is helpful. I am not sure if the oil has ever been changed so I`m guessing it should be done right away since it potentially could have been in there for a couple of years. For now I will probably just dump the oil and leave the filter. Then I will get them to do a full change on the first service.

Thanks,
If the oil light is on constantly its pressure not dirty. Is the level correct? If so and the light is on, you dont need an oil change you need to trailer it to the dealer. Edit-- I just read where the OP says its only one when the engines not running.. Never mind.

If you're going to "leave the filter" then it makes zero sense in changing the oil at all. Just go ride it another 800k's and then change your oil AND filter. In fact, you can change all 3 holes at 1500k's.
