Anyone else ride with exposed air filter similar to this? Just wondering of any problems if any, I might encounter. I have a Harley Davidson rain sock but im not sure if I wanna ride with it on all the time or just slip it on when its raining. The only reason I thought about leaving the rain sock on all the time is I thought it might help with dust though because I live on a dirt road. I figured it would be easier
to clean the sock than the air filter all the time.
The rain socks are more like lint socks when riding. Won't hurt to leave it butbut when riding in rain it will saturate quickly and let water thru anyway. Most useful when washing. parked up at work, or whatever other non-running scenario.
May help to apply a quality dry silicone spray but don't expect miracles.
Just ride on. You have to be in a literal hurricane to drown your running engine. If it spits and sputters a bit, just shift down a gear or pull off and get a coffee for a while.
I was also wondering if going to a exposed filter is going to affect the bike any? Ive had the upgraded air intake and Vance &Hines exhaust but it had the old oval stock air filter cover on it.
I won't hurt anything but a good tuner (Power Vision) is recommended as one of the earliest mods. The factory tune is hopelessly lean. Adding high flow intake and exhaust parts can make it even worse.
Personally, I'm in the "tuner first" camp. A good one will last the life of the bike and support every engine mod you ever do.
