Default 01 dyna wide glide

not to beat a dead horse but...situation, speedo/odometer went out,,,,no self cancel turns, cleaned the vss a few times and it came and went on....now it does not...i swapped out the vss with a new one, and also changed the tranny fluid, cleaned the drain plug of particles....started the bike,.odometer came on for 2-3 secs..then nothing, that was sitting still,,,,took a short ride around the block and nothing.....sooooo! could it be the TSM? this bike does not have tssm...(no alarm)..thanks for any info...p.s. i have the service manual but cant put my finger on why turns would work manually,,but not self cancel..the speedo is not electronic....thnx//

Start looking at the primary battery cables for corroded terminals, positive and negative cables. Had a Sportster do weird crap like that and the negative cable inside the insulation was down to two strands.the rest were corroded beyond help. Quite surprised your speedometer is cable driven but the odometer is electronic. Have you removed the speed sensor located on the backside of the trans. case, cleaned it and reinstalled it. It's a Hall Effect type sensor reading the motion of the fourth gear gear.

I would go back and check the basics, fuses, grounds, battery, the condition of the ignition switch.

You probably already know the wiring diagrams are available on this forum but just in case here is the link : https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...-part-1-a.html

So update, total charging system is great, no opens or shorts i harness for speedsensor going to speedometer, so thats OK, I took the tsm off its holder and with bike running, tipped the Tsm over and bike stopped as it should... But still question if the Tsm, has something internally to connect the speedometer/ODOMETER, AND SELF CANCEL TURNS. THAT TSM CONTROLS?
