Thunder-Max Dyna install
I just finished installing the Thunder-Max w/ Auto-Tune on my 06 Wide Glide. The install for the Dyna series is a little more complicated then the install for other models. Modifications on the electrical caddy are time consuming but not too difficult. It maybe possible to do the modification with the caddy in place but I felt it would be awkward to do and leave a mess to clean up on the bike so I just followed the instructions and removed it... A major asset is that the installation instructions have photos and are pretty well written. I printed the instructions out so that I could have them for quick reference as I went along. The biggest pita was good old HD not using even the slightest amount of anti-seize on the rear o2 sensor, and the fact that it was badly cross threaded. I had to work quite a while (Tried every thing I could think of and finally got It.) to get the sensor out and then had to chase the threads with a tap. Thanks Harley D. I love you SOBs. Other than the screw up by the factory the install was not real bad, if you can follow instructions, have a Dremel tool, a good set of mechanics tools and are patient you can do the install. If you are going to remove and install the o2sensors with the header pipes still on the bike you will need a regular 22mm crow’s foot to get at the rear sensor. I bought a set of specialized o2 sensor remove/install tools with 2 different o2 crows’ feet and sensor socket that were useless because of the tight constraints of the area in which you must work. A 12 inch extension and a ratchet along with the standard 22 mm crows foot is what it took to get the old sensors out and put the wide bands in. Watch the wiring harness plugs and connectors when reinstalling the electrical caddy, make sure that you do not over look any and be sure that they are well seated. I have the
Thunder-Max installed but I am waiting on parts for other areas of the bike. When I get them I will button every thing up and try to post a brief report on how easy or difficult it seems to set up the TMAT.
I know how to turn a wrench, but I can make no claim on being a highly skilled mechanic. So, if I can install the TMAT on a Dyna, anyone can.

I would really like to see the pics of the installation as I am thinking hard about getting the Thundermax instead of the SERT. How does this effect the HD warranty? Sure do not want to have any problems with it down the road.

I am not worried about the warranty Airborne 350G. My bike reaches the end of the standard warranty early next spring and as soon as it does I will build the motor with aftermarket components. If I had the extended warranty I might be concerned, but heck, it has not been back to the dealers since the day I purchased it. After I did the 1000 Mi. service I realized that I could do just about any of the work on my own. New brake rotors, calipers, handle bars, cables, shocks, Thunder- Max, and much more. Every time I do something to the bike I learn more about it and grow more confident and comfortable about working on it. If you are concerned about your warranty then I would say go for the SERT. If in the future the EPA gets really nasty it may not make any difference what you elect to use. Any deviations from stock will probably get you ten to twenty in the electric chair.

Might just go ahead and get the SERT. That way if I do have any issues the dealer has to worry about it. Yep if the EPA has their way we would all be riding water cooled or electric motorcycles. [:@]

Pull it off and put the stock brain back on.

Hello Punty;
On the touring bikes and Softtails the install is much more simplified. About as close to plug and play as you can get. The Dyna series of motorcycles require more work on the install because of the location that the controller occupies. The greatest problem I encountered was the caused by not by the install its self but by Harley Davidson’s half a$$ assembly work. If you are a Dyna rider the install just requires a bit more effort on your part.
Hello BACA MICK;
The 07 Dyna should be no different on the install. If major changes were made on the 2007 frame and wiring harness I would say that there could be some difference but, Ithink that HD made no changes to the 07 in that regard
Hello Airborne 350G;
Always keep your factory take off parts. If you decide to trade or sell your bike in the future returning the bike to stock condition and selling off the add on parts would bring extra cash.
