Well rode her home on Friday. 80 miles, A LOT of rain. And based on the condition of this bike, I am pretty sure that's the first rain it had ever seen! There isn't a spec or scratch or blemish to be found! On top of getting the bike for next to nothing, they through in a cover, 3 sets of HD gloves, 2 helmets, and a host of small stuff. Yep....I don't consider myself overly lucky, but I sure felt it on Friday.
Man I did enjoy the ride, minus the rain. I am conflicted now on what I want to do with the bike. First thing to go is the seat. I have changed my mind so many times in the last 24 hours its not even funny! Cant decide on Mustang Wide Solo, Mustang Solo, Fastback, or Daytripper. Those are my top choices. I am a big guy. 6"2" 275 lbs.... so comfort is key, but also bike will ridden 75+ miles a day, but not many big trips planned due to small kiddos.
Next is my forward control vs. midcontrol conundrum. While I cant say I hated mids, I felt so much better with my legs stretched out further on the highway pegs. Unless I was shifting or braking I left them there. Question. Would the factory forward controls off a 2001 Wide Glide bolt right now? Shouldn't need anything additional would I?
But anyway, once I decide on the seat, I will see how it feels then make the controls decision I guess.
In other news, compared to my last 88" with was an 04 Softail FXST, this thing runs like a raped ape. I know it has the SE exhaust, and what appears to be a SE breather. Its wide open with plenty of airflow. So I am assuming its been jetted appropriately. It runs very strong and smooth as silk... it amazed me the difference in how much more power it seemed to have over my FXST. What sucks is not having the full history on the bike besides it was babied.
Consider the Ness BBK if you're getting into the brakes. My new to me FXD brakes were really soft. Fresh fluid, Lyndall Z plus pads, new front MC/caliper/BBK and it stops NOW.
Front end is mushy, but with the brake work and upping the rear preload to second highest setting (I'm 235) can control the nosedive when stopping.
And if you want to swap those ugly chrome engine covers for some authentic spotty aluminum ones let me know.
You have the best of both worlds with the mids and highway pegs. When I bought my '07 FXD forward controls were all the rage. Now it's doing a 180 and mids are in. I currently have floorboards, so what do I know?

I am strongly considering the further forward mid controls with some type of floorboard kit. Once I make up my mind on a seat, I will see where I'm at and go from there.
Install the factory FLD footboard kit? Best thing I've ever done to mine. Very comfortable & plenty of room to stretch out & move around.
~$3K for that bike is a steal & the '02s are thought in some circles to be the best for longevity & reliability. I thought my old '99 FLTR ran well & was surprised at how quick the Super Glide was. A set of mild, bolt-in cams woke 'er up very nicely as well.
