Default Custom sissy bar for my Street Bob

Hey yall, new here. I was wondering if anyone has built their own sissy bar for their street bob. Mine is a 2011 model. Any suggestions on how to do the mounting brackets? I would prefer to avoid using a docking kit if possible. Thanks in advance.

I would start with buying a pair rigid side plates. You could then build your own bar from there.

Can i use said plates as an extra "washer" between my tail lights and where they mount? Been pondering this, just haven't taken it apart to see what that mounting system is like

Also I work in a metal fab shop, and can make just about anything I need, just want opinions on where the best place to mount it would be

By an 'extra washer' I'm assuming you mean to put the sissy bar between the fender and the support bars, correct? That's how a fixed sissy bar mounts. 2 bolts and some wiring to be aware of for your lights. Leave the washers that are in there between the sissy bar and the fender to minimize rubbing the paint.
Notch the brackets. Front one like a "C" back one like an "N". This makes taking it off or putting it on a 3 minute job verse 40 minute since you can slide over the bolts verse removing them. You need a 3rd notch for the wiring. Put it on slow so you don't cut it.

I'd use 1/8" plate. Make sure you have no edges that could scrap your paint. Make it big enough that the plate goes past the bolts and you can just start to see it on the other side of the support bar. I also suggest doing a mock up to get your angle and position correct if a passenger is going to be leaning on it.

I was thinking putting it outside the support arm, between it and the lights, and just drilling holes. Thoughts?

Might look a little bulkier but should work fine. Quick detach ones do that, they just have hardware that allows them to come off without removing anything else.

I'd suggest rubber washers between the sissy bar and support arm.

I think once I also put the saddle bag supports on (doing a dual purpose set up) the bags should help hide the bulkiness. Thanks much for the advice. Stay safe yall
