Okay; how come a replacement bulb from the local hardware store that is the proper voltage, looks exactly the same physically, is rated very near the candle power of the original bulb, and fits into the socket properly, NOT work in my 2016 Wide Glide??
Be explicit. When you say it doesn't work do you mean it won't illuminate or won't flash?
Is it a front turn signal or a rear turn signal because they are different? Front turn signals are running lights as well and require a dual filament bulb. Rear turn signals are not running lights and use a single filament bulb. Given the information you provided, although the bulbs may look the same, I'll bet you purchased a single filament bulb when you needed a dual filament bulb. It is a common mistake.
Even if it worked, it would not work long. Go to the Harley store and get their heavy duty bulb 68168-89A (I think). Probably still made in China but they spent .02 cents more making it last longer. I know, it's $5.00 but they are two

Well, this is strange; and yes, I wasn't being very specific. Sorry!
It is my right rear turn signal. Both filaments burned out.
All four of my original turn signal bulbs are dual filament, and all four function as running lights (on all the time) as well as turn signals. And yes, my owners manual only mentions the front bulbs as being running lights.
The replacement bulbs I tried, as well as the original bulbs, are all 32/3 candlepower. It's obvious when signaling, that the 3 candlepower is the running light and the 32 is the turn signal.
I'll likely end up making a run to the nearest dealership; but first (and perhaps as a temporary fix) this morning I plan to try a bulb from an auto parts store.
Bought a pair of Sylvania bulbs, and they work great.
In turn-signal mode, they're lower in candlepower than the originals (21 in place of 32). In running-light mode, a bit higher (4 in place of 3), but they'll be fine until I get a chance to stop at the Harley store.
No idea why the rears are also functioning as running lights; I guess that will remain a mystery for now..
