Default ECM questions.

Hello guys.

Is it possible for an ECM from a 103ci Dyna to be used on a 96ci Dyna? Like, the ECM from a 103ci Low Rider into a 96ci Street Bob. Any repercussions and issues?

Biggest issue will be the VIN... and changing the map to allot for the smaller inches.

I see. So it is possible to use a 103ci ecm but it needs to be remapped to compensate the smaller cc? What other changes will happen? And what if, if I use the ecm without remapping it?

Real question is why do you want to do this so badly?

only thing other than Vince issues will be that pretty much everything will need to be reset from basemaps to default points such as temps etc

One of our bikes here got a faulty ecm. At first we checked the whole bike, everything from wiring to stuff like coil and what not, nothing wrong. So when we swapped the ecm with another 96ci dyna's ecm, it runs normal.

As I understand it, (and I am not 100% certain) you'll only have VIN issues if the ECM came from a bike that had an alarm system installed.

As previously mentioned, you will need to re map for the difference in displacement.

I see. Now we do have an old Dyna Low Rider's ecm, same 96ci, same year and without alarm system just like the one with the ECM problem. So it shouldn't be a problem if we used the Low Rider's ECM into the Street Bob?

Ask a dealer, they'd be able to give you the definitive answer. I know they often do some sort of reprogramming when installing a new ECM....

I don't forsee any issues except the speedo will be off since the Low Rider had a different rear sprocket than the Street Bob. To update the map in the ECM you would have to use either a new one or the one used on the Low Rider.
