I love my forward controls, however, when I got my super comfy Le Pera Monterrey Seat, it actually pushed me forward, kind of like a reduced reach. I feel like I have further forward mids now and its actually quite comfortable. I use the engine guard when I need to stretch out my legs forward.
I have forwards on my 2014 FXDL and recently removed sundowner solo seat and went back to stock seat. I'm 6'1" and wear 34" inseam jeans. Find the forwards very comfortable. If I sit on other dynas with standard mids i feel cramped.
Mids and highway pegs are the way to go. In twistys mids are just better for handling, you can put your weight on them and use them to balance when riding aggressively. When on the highway you generally dont need to shift as much unless racing or stuck in traffic and that is where the highway pegs do a nice job of letting you stretch out.
Sorry dude but I'm calling bullshit on anyone loading pegs on a Harley. It's not a dirt bike. You're not weighting your pegs, you're only applying pressure and you're doing nothing for handling by applying pressure. I can do the same with forward controls. I hear that loading pegs claim all the time from dudes with mids and it's nonsense... not try'n to be an *** but that's my opinion. It's no different than these lug heads that claim you can't ride a last generation Wide Glide in a parking lot or in twisties because it has a 34° rake. Forwards are like sitting in a recliner... mids are like sitting in a kitchen chair. The main factor with forwards is that you're legs are long enough to enjoy them.

You clearly know nothing about riding aggressively.
I had mids on my 09 Fat Bob and loved them. Could ride for an hour or 2 before feeling like I needed to move around a bit. I have forwards now on my 2016 Fat Bob, and I'm not so crazy about them. Really comfortable for me for about a 1/2 hour or so, then quickly gets to where I need to take a break. My leg gets almost a bit numb from them.
Debating floor boards or getting mids and highway bars.
I'm 6" and have mids with highway pegs. The only time my feet touch the mids is when I have to shift or brake. I plan on switching to forwards this winter.
I had mids on my Superglide then tried the further forward mids and thought about forwards but made the jump to floorboards. Love the floorboards- much more comfortable. I did lose a little agility (peg) control going away from the mids but the trade off was worth it for me. I also find the bigger brake pedal makes slow speed maneuvering a bit easier.
