FXR: rubber-mounted engine.
FXD: ‘dynamic’ mounted engine and drivetrain.
Notice in Durham’s photos above...
FXR: ‘V’ shape of frame under seat, swing arm is mounted to the frame, passenger foot pegs are mounted to the frame at the bottom of the ‘V’, engine-transmission are ‘captive’ within the frame on rubber mounts, very rigid frame, excellent handling bike.
FXD: battery box under the seat, engine-transmission-swing arm basically hang below the frame, (note stabilizer link below battery box), passenger foot pegs are mounted to the swing arm, handling is not as crisp as an FXR. (lots of mods to improve Dyna handling)
I have had a couple of both. The FXR had a shovel head motor, has a frame with more flex better design and is better handling then the FXD of today
with the TC88 but the FXD narrowglide is the best handling Dyna now. Too bad Harley wanted to save money with the FXD frame. Should have stuck to the FXR frame. Either one you could't go wrong.
Could you possibly change that to an understandable comment that pertains to the topic?
alright I will fix it. What I meant to post was, the picture of the dyna frame is not an fxd it is my wide glide. But it will show the difference between an fxr frame and a dyna frame. Sorry I forgot to proof read. I forget there are nerds like you around checking everyones grammar. Nice job!
