Heavy Rider - suspension changes
Hey guys...
What do I need to do to the suspension on my 2000 FXD to get my suspension set up right. I weigh 340 pounds, and may want to have a rider up with me occasionally. I am assuming I wont be able to get the ride right with the stock adjustments and I will probably need to get new coil over springs or something. What should I look at doing to my ride?

I don't know about the front (from a rider weight perspective), you might want to give RaceTech a call and talk to one of their techs.
I would assume RaceTechs rear shocks are high quality, you ought to talk with them about the rear set up as well

I, and a lot of others here, have Progressive rear shocks. I don't know if all the Progressive models come in a Heavy Duty (HD) model or not. I know the 440 does, and it is a very good shock. I have the 440HD, but am only 220. I wish I had gone with the regular. For your weight, you will want the 440.

I suggest RaceTech for their front end because I hated the Progressive springs in the front.
I went with RaceTech straight rate springs, and their cartridge emulators and the ride is MUCH better than the Progressive fork springs. Don't rely on their calculator to figure which spring you need, talk to a tech there. Tell them your riding style, weight, that you will have a passenger some of the time, etc. They will figure the correct front spring for you. I got the 195kg spring.

RE: Heavy Rider - suspension changes
I "only" weigh 240 but I put on Progressive 12 1/2" HD440's and Progressive front springs at the same time I hated the front until I changed out front fork to SE heavy fork oil, now much better than stock. Front and back much more stable, less dive and no wallowing. Can't comment about Racetech front springs, no experience there. All I know is that for a big guy 6'4" 240# my setup works for me. Thats why these forums are so helpful, not always the same advice, different riding styles are a big part of it, and different expectations too, sift through. I have gotten lot's of good info here. New to Harley, not new to motorcycles. A grey haired rider, lol. Been riding almost 40 years. Peace.

RE: Heavy Rider - suspension changes
Built this one with a brother a couple of years ago; he's 320 and we used 12.5" progressive 412's with their heaviest springs and Race Tech heavy springs in front...works fine for him
