Usually I do it without ever removing the top link, but since that's what I was changing this time... I honestly don't recall if the top link was under tension or not last time I aligned things...

It's really fine now... I've aligned my bike pretty thoroughly on a number of occasions, and it handles very well. It just struck me this time that the point of optimal rear wheel vertical alignment may not necessarily be the same as the drivetrain position that yields the least vibration.

i think if you do it again w/ both mounts loose then the top I’d adjusted it will be good....
Yes this. Both mounts loose at the same time.
