I'm pretty sure I've seen adhesive-backed white rubber appliques designed just for that purpose.

I wasn't comfortable running a rear on the front so I kept it to a 150/80-17. I wanted performance radial, though, and didn't look into white walls, bit I never ran across any front tire at any diameter or aspect wider than 150.

Exile Cycles is arguably the King of the fat front and they use Metzler rears for anything over 150.

If you're going for a vintage look, you could always use a replica tire from some somebody like Coker Tire. They have lots of cool white wall with various vintage treads and profiles.

So looking on line at all the tires out there I believe I have it narrowed down to a couple of tire manufacturers and sizes. Once I secure a rim I'll make a decision on a tire. For the sizes I want 160 I would have to run a rear tire, which I'm not opposed to but I think to be safe a 140 front white wall is what I am going to go with. Wide enough to look the part but narrow enough to keep handling decent and easier to buy. Although I live on the flat lands and have virtually no hills and very few curves to deal with.

The only companies I can find that makes these white walls in a 160 rear and 140 front are Shinko 777 & dunlop (going by the JP Cycles website). Every one else doesn't do a 17" in these sizes. Coker Tire does not make a 17" tire. If I ran 16" I would have a lot more options, but as much as i would love to do this conversion, I don't want to replace my rear spoke 17" wheel as its in perfectly good shape.

Will keep you informed when I do the conversion...now I just need to find a decent 17" rim....

Hdwheels.com and Buchanan's both sell a selection of nice rims. Probably also V-twin Mfg and J&P.

There are cheaper options, but I got my Excel aluminum rims and stainless spokes from Buchanan's. I laced them myself.

Take-off and salvage rims/wheels are all over EBay for easy money. I got my hubs there as complete wheels. Around $65 each. I junked the spokes and rims, then reconditioned the hubs. More money buys better examples, of course. I just needed servicable hubs so I bought rusty wheels cheap.

I would love to find a really nice clean rim. Like you spokes are not really the issue, but I need clean chrome...the search is on!

Unless you find some aftermarket rim ... You can rob the rim from the 17x3 laced spoke that came on 2009-later Touring

You can put a 140/80-17 on a 3" rim (although Shinko will publish a single recommended size of 3.5") and trying to reuse a 4.5 rear rim would be too wide

Ok. You just killed it...lol so the stock rear rim @ 4.5 is to wide for the 140? That is what i was going to try and find....casuse I thought if I can't find a used one I would just buy a new rear rim from HD and go from there...but your saying its to wide? Dang didn't think about the rear rim size being to wide for a 140...ouch.....

I was on the ride wright site and it says for a 17" rear rim a tire 140/70/17 will fit a 3.5 - 4.5 inch rim? Anyone know if this is for a Rear tire on a rear rim and not just any tire with those measurements on a rear rim. I contacted them but have not heard back....

Did you use the Reference Page I posted for you before?

That was probably for 70 series REAR Tire

Here's the FRONT

Alternately, call/email Shinko / Dunlop about they're MAX recommended Size Range, but I don't think either one will say a 4.5 is OK

.
