Default fork oil measurements

This question only pertains to bikes that do not have spring tension on the upper fill cap of the forks.

I'd like to check the fork oil quantity without a drain and refill.

Has anyone ever done a ruler measurement of fork oil with the cap off from top down to the fluid line to find out how many inches to the fluid?

If so, let me know how many inches you came up with.

Thanks

Not that I know of. The reason most people do their own work is that way they know exactly how much is in there.

but why do you want to measure it? Is there something you feel is wrong? Solution to a problem that didn’t exist?

If it was me, depending on how long the oil has been in there, would do a full fluid and seal change. You could also up grade your suspension etc at the same time.

you measure the oil when the fork is compressed (on a jack wheel removed) or you’ll get a false reading. Since you’re already there might as well just drain and refill to spec.

Mine were off by 4oz. from the factory. They were new and I found out with a spring change. I didn't like the dive my Fatbob had.
