As I was scheduling my 1,000 mile service check they inquired would I like Synthetic or castor based oil to be used? Money wise its $30 more for synthetic oil. If the engine break in was done with a castor base oil why change to Synthetic? From what I was always taught as long as engine oil is changed on a regular basis (every 3,000 miles) thenthe motor will be just fine. Your thoughts and experiences will be greatly appreciated.
your bike will be find on dino oil. The largest benefit of switching to syn is that the bike tends to run cooler, the oil itself has a higher heat tolerence. in the tranny and primary, the synthetics seem to provide other benefits like smoother shifting, quieter operation, etc.
There are lots of people running dino without problems. There was a time where we didn't have a choice and I don't think the bikes were breaking down cuz we didn't have syn yet.
with that said, I run Redline syn products exclusively.
Thrillseeker is right on. Syn offers cooler and smoother operation. I just changed mine at the 1000 and my bike is cooler, quieter, and it shifts smooth (justlike cutting through butter). But Dino oil doesn't hurt a bike either.
