I've owned and ridden a lot of Harley's over the past 30+ years, but by far the '96 FXDWG I recently picked up is the most comfortable for long distance travel... BTW, I'm 6'2", 34" inseam...

I have owned and ridden the Softail and the Dyna, and a Dyna would be my choice. The Dyna will have a little more power due to the fact that the counter balancers in the Softail rob a little power, the Dyna handles better, and has a better ride.

If you like the forward controls, they can be added to any of the Dynas, and the Wide Glide comes with them.

Good luck in your quest.

Regards,

I have 4000 miles on my 05 Dyna Super Glide Custom> I did the stage one with Vance & Hines and the bike really runs quick. My roll on in 5th gear from 50 mph up to 100 mph is amazing. I put the foward controls on and the bike looks good!

Went to the dealer again today and sat on a Super Gluide Custom and a Wide Glide. Besides the fact the the WG is two thousand more, it is a little bit too much of a reach for me. I can reach ok, but it's a little more of a reach than I am comfortable with. Now the Custom. I really like the bike with the exception on the foot controls. I'm sure I'd get used to them, but my Star has forward controls and I find them pretty comfortable. If I were to put forwards on the Custom, would they be as far of a reach as the WG? I know the wheel base is longer on the WG, but not sure about the frame. Hugo..what did the stage 1 run you if you had it done at the dealer?

I am happy with my 05 FXDL. Ive ridden a standard Softail and I did not like it as much. Probably because I was used to a 77 Sportster after 13 years. The Dynas are built to be ridden. I kept my foot controls mid mount. If the Low Rider did not come with highway pegs, I would have added them. I never really cared for forward controls because I feel like my feet are crowded on them. In fact, I put on the 5" extended pegs. I am sure everyone else has said the same thing: rent whatever bike you are interested in and make an informed decision. That way, you will know first hand. Good luck and enjoy the shopping/research process.

here's my opinion witch I had to make a few months ago. I always wanted to get a night train at least for the several years they been around. Yhe wife finaly finished 13 years of school and off to the dealer I went to get my night train when I got there I was already to buy but then I was bouncing around on all the cruisers and discovered that I liked the dyna a hole lot better then the soft tails so I left with no purchase borrowed my cousins 04 soft tail and it wasnt that bad but there was alot of vibration at speed so I figured ok its a harley there is going to be vibration so I went to another dealer rented a super glide custom what a f*&^ difference it was a hole lot nicer to ride I live on Long Island and traffic can be hell so I really liked the handeling of the dyna. So to end this long story I purchased a super glide and havent regreted it I love riding it. Im 6'1' inseam 34" so I did get the forward controls and they are perfect.
