someone with leftover struts will probably sell for a pittance.

I am a machinist / fabricator of 35 years and I would have to charge more than believe he would want to pay. If he wants a hatchet job then yes go find a shop that will take in, just be sure to post pictures. Attaching factory strut pieces will probably go undetected if done correctly and save hundreds of $ JMHO

well now I know I gotta look in literally every nook and cranny when buying a bike

the dude did have about $6k in engine work done at a shop prior to selling it, so I got a good deal overall I suppose
The nice thing about your issue is you can do this work at any time after you find the parts. Not like it's holding up a build.

I would imagine there are many people right now considering cutting their struts so start looking now and take your time.....it,s worth doing right!

Just for kicks, what kind of cost would I be looking at if I brought you some cut offs and asked you to lengthen my frame back to stock?

thanks for your info and input btw

Personally, I would source a back section of a frame (i just got one off ebay)
Whack the rest off yours off and weld the new on.
3 hours
and 300 bucks plus frame part

I would cut the radius away both sides and square up the joints and weld prep

Use your fender as a template and start fitting the strut extensions

TIG tac / check fit again / weld and clean up the welds

I would probably quote 3 hrs. Shop rate varies from shop to shop and what part of the country. You may need to shop because some shops will not want to take it on.

I would think you could expect $300 - $350...If I had to fab extensions add another 2 to 3 hrs.

Just remember the cheapest is not always the best. Talk to the shop and make sure they understand exactly what you want \ expect. See if they understand and are confident they can do the job properly

I would not even consider replacing more than just the struts. Chopping the frame? Please don't.

Should be able to find struts off a damaged frame at a junk yard. there's a few who advertise on eBay etc. I would keep what you have and cut down thew replacement pieces to fit. Then weld in place.

Or brace the fender and don't use any struts.
