Default HD Extended Warranty

What does everyone think about paying for the extended HD warranty/wheel and tire coverage? It's a pretty hefty additonalexpense on top of the bike cost, and I question whether it is necessary. I realize it all depends on my riding style and luck and fate, but I still wanted to see what most of you do. Do you guys opt for this extra coverage? I always felt it was a scam when it came to buying cars--so I never bought it--but something tells methings might be different with a bike.

Comments, suggestions, experiences are always welcome. Thanks in advance.

It's like any other insurance,if you never use it you feel like you wasted money. I just got a new rear wheel cause it was out of round, gladI had the wheel coverage. The thing about the extended warrantys is that you spend some money up front so you don't have to worry about a major failure that you'd have to pay out of pocket. Hopefully you'd never have to use it,but I for one would rather not to have a major failure to pay out of pocket when I didn't have the money to pay for it without putting it on a credit card. Just depends on how deep your pockets are,but at the cost of parts and labor it doesn't take long to recoup the money you spend for the coverage. I put fifteen to twenty thousand a year on my bike, figure I'm gonna tear their *** up on the extended coverage.

Good Luck

Tom

you can wait till the original is almost up before buying the extended warranty. Only costs like $120 more than if you did it at the time of purchase.

My thinking is wait out the original warranty and when you're getting to the end of that, if the bikes from your year and make are starting to show problems it's probably worth buying the extended, otherwise let it lapse...

it is unlimited milage though so you need to take that into account...

Dealers make about 10% on the bike. They make their bulk profit on clothes, acc, 1000 mile serv. That ext warrant is just another bread and butter gimmick. Wait till bulk of original is up and see how your bike is doing . and how bikes same year of yours is doing. Then decide.

If the extended warrenty was a GOOD DEAL for the consumer....the only way you would find out about it would be in places like this forum. You say...I cant afford the bike...ONE time.....they walk away from you....you say...I cant afford the extended warrenty.....they walk away from you....after FIVES times...if you are lucky....

I find.....usually if it's a good deal for me.....you dont have to convince me....

If....I ever need that extended warrenty...I'll wish I bought it....for my bike....my 3 cars....my TV...my toaster...all my appliances....the vaccuum cleaner...my computer....and my wife....etc...

IT'S TRUE THEY WILL GIVE YOU CREDIT IF YOU SELL YOUR BIKE AND DO NOT WANT TO TRANSFER THE WARRENTY TO THE NEW OWNER

I've never bought an extended warranty on anything and never needed one on anything. If it doesn't break during the original warranty then your good to go.

I bought a used truck with 40k miles on it. Purchased the 2k ext warranty. 13k miles later the transy went.
2.6k$ replacement, 5 days car rental for the $100. to take it in.

The warranty paid for itself and in essence paid me close to 500-600$.

I bought one for the bike too. I *hope* to never have $1500ish worth of bad parts to go in the next 4 years, but if it does then the warranty will have paid for itself again.

If not, I've wasted a lot more than $1500 over a 5 yearperiod that did a lot less for my peace of mind..
