Does anyone else hate the wrinkle black handlebar mounted speedometer on their fxd? What are my options on upgrading and possibly adding a tachometer. I dont have a lot of cash to kickaroud though. It is an 07' by the way. I just don't want the big cyclops look. Thanks.
You can buy a chrome mount for handlebars that willhold two 2" gauges for '07 FXD, speedo and tach. Dealer will set mileage on speedo, don't know the price but I'd expect it to be in the 500.00 dollar range, but I am guessing. Ask your dealer. Peace.
My buddy has an '07 FXD and I'm pretty sure that the last time he asked the dealer about a tach for his he was told that they didn't have one yet that would work on the FXD. You could change the black to chrome for the speedometer mount I guess.
Time to dig out the J&P catalog! Those bars with everything internal and the Dakota Digital instruments are cool if you got $2500 - $3000 burnin a hole in your pocket!
I used a chrome speedo bracket off a 1999-2003 Sportster Custom. This mount moves the speedo behind the handlebar clamp. Depending on risers, check for clearance at the tank, also may need to shim it up with spacers. If you do this, you also need a solution for warning lights. I went without for a while, then later made some out of LED's.
You can also use a riser/speedo clamp off a 2004-2006 Sportster Custom. This assembly is a single unit and has the warning lights built in.
Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll have to start hunting for something that will work.I may want to change the handle bars as well, so this project may have to wait. I really like the set up on the cvo dyna.
Buy 4 or 5 inch pull back risers ($75), a 24" drag bar ($25), and teardrop mirrors ($50-$100).
I HATED my speedo for years (I have an '02), and this year I set it up like you see above. Now it looks fantastic, it is more comfortable, and handles better. The speedo is not as obnoxious anymore, it gets blended in nicely with the mirrors. My sig pic is old, and it shows how it did look. I do not have a recent pic but will take one and try to post before the day is out...
