Passenger Back Rest
Last year I moved from a '97 FXDWG to a '06 FXDI (long story).
My wife and I put a lot of miles, a lot smiles, and a lot of hours on that machine. Loved it. We spent a lot of time and money setting it up just right, getting it to fit us exactly the way we liked it. Week long cross country trips were common, and comfortable.
So, when we bought the new bike I immediatly set out to make those same changes that had worked so well before. BUT, the ergonomics are considerably differant. Those same changes didn't work quite as well as before.
On the new bike, the seat sits back just a littl bit further than before. Not much, maybe 1/2 - 3/4". But it's enough to change the fit. One of the changes I immediatly made was to a Mustang wide touring seat with a driver back rest. I hade to set the backrest just a little bit further foreward for a comfortable reach of the bars and pegs. My butt doesn't fit the cup anymore. That's OK, still comfortable.
I also installed standard H-D side plates, andthis non-removable sissy bar.

But here's the rub. The passenger seat is a little bit to the rear also. But the sissy bar is not! That gives her about 1/2 - 3/4" less room. Now, that doen't seem like much, but it really is. The differance is certainly noticable. I was trying to design a new sissy bar and pad that is a little further to the back. It was going to require some work, but I think I could do it without redesigning a completly new side plate.
Then I saw an add for a new pad from Mustang that sets the sissy bar into the back of the pad about 1/2". Although it's listed for a Sportster and Softail, I thought it might fit my new Dyna. Sure enough, it does. Took just a few minutes to install.

What does the wife think? Definate improvement. She's a lot more comfortable. Definatly worth the $80.

I had a Mustang vintage wide on my Sportster and the matching sissy bar pad that was recessed in the back it made riding 2up possible on that small bike. When I got my Super Glide I bought the studded touring seat and it is even better, put the same sisy bar pad on. I just put some parts on the bike yesterday pass foot pegs, detach bar, turn signal relocation. Waiting for my wife to get home from work to take her for a ride and see how she likes it.
