I replaced the OEM battery this January with an AGM Yuasa battery. Lately, the bike sometimes wants to start and other times needs to be jumped. The most recent case was tonightI went to start the bike and I got an "VIN-something" error as it tried to turnover but didn't. Then two hours later fired right up. I rode all day Sunday and Monday with no issues, so the bike has been sitting for two days. NDB, right?
Last week, it started fine. I rode it for 20 minutes, then I needed a jump from a friend as it wouldn't start 2 hours later. Any thoughts? Bad stator?
Sounds like my story. Battery 3-months old never had the guts it should with starting issues after 2-months. Needed jumped twice, blinkers didn't function correctly. Battery wouldn't hold charge. Never seen battery give it up so soon and battery wasn't on the radar as being bad. It was.
Put volt meter on it as you crank it. See what the voltage drops to. Mine dropped to around 6 volts.
edit: Mine was a Yuasa battery bought in January.

Good Answer the only thing would add is see what Voltage is after cranking and running should run about High 13's Low 14's any higher or lower more likely in the Charging .. But would also try Load Testing the Battery just to be sure ..
After you did nothing to correct it? Sounds like a loose connection, or possibly a bad connection inside the battery itself. Dead batteries don't magically come back to life.
Thanks, I'll check the terminals again. I replaced the terminal bolts the other day, so that's out. I checked the battery today and it was low, but took a charge back to full. My bet is either bad battery (though new) or my Dyna's charging system is off. Going to have the battery tested first then go from there.
Some of the aftermarket batteries have a brass spacer to enable the lugs to fit flush. Check your connections real and clean them, especially the ground from battery to chassis.
Yup...loose connection or charging system issue...as a rule of thumb Anytime you run into electrical issues you should start with checking the whole charging system...it’s pretty quick and easy...
