Braces are great if you like to corner hard and predictably. Would you notice in every day riding, probably not. Most bike makers use the fender mount as a quasi brace so all forks benefit from some stiffening in this area. If you really want the fork tight with zero wiggle they are the way to go.
Today I had to remove my forks because I am upgrading to cartdriges. I didnt break the drain plugs. So I put the superbrace back on and it held the lowers so that I could break the drain plugs.
So it offers stiffness to the lower fork in every plane.
