Default Clutch Adjustment

2006 Dyna Wide Glide. I have followed the recommendations in the service manual to adjust the clutch. No matter which I try the 1/2 turn free play or the full turn free play I end up with a clutch that engages the minute I let it out. It also seem to slip at a stop and is almost impossible to get into neutral at a stop. Just bought this bike last year with less than 5000 miles on it. Had the problem since day one. I keep trying different adjustments with no difference. I want a lever that lets out almost agt the very end of travel all my other bikes do..

Bike must be cold before adjusting. Are you doing this?

Yes just like the manual says make free play at cable-adjust at clutch then adjust at cable. I am wondering if I just have a bad clutch. Do plates get worn from just sitting. The last owner only put 600 miles on it over a 6 year period.

If you are sure your adjustment under the derby is correct you can adjust the friction zone at the grip by adjusting the cable … to make the friction zone further from the grip make the cable adjuster longer … to make the friction zone closer to the grip make the cable adjuster shorter … you can do this in half turn increments to get it where you like it …

FWIW I use less than a half turn under the derby …

That was what I was wondering if I could go closer under the derby. Thanks I will try that.

You can go closer under the derby ... then use the cable adjuster to put the friction zone where you want it

How much oil are you putting in the primary? My manual says too much oil can cause these symptoms.
