I was riding and the bike just stopped running. Pushed start buttin and it just gets a hard one click sound, starter doesn't engage at all. Battery still has 500 cranking amps, connects are good and so are ground wires. Negative battery terminal gets very hot. Also put starter button on solenoid and when its pushed same hard one click sound. Recently changed voltage regulator as well, connections are not loose on that. I have a video of what's going on but cannot upload it from my phone to this post
This usually means you have a bad connection at the negative terminal. Check closely for good mechanical contact with a lot of surface area. Make sure there is no corrosion or foreign matter interfering with the flow of electrons. Put some dielectric grease on the terminals to prevent future corrosion.
One less obvious problem can be corrosion between the end of the negative cable and its terminal lug.
Lastly, it could be an internal problem at the battery negative post. I wouldn't expect it to test good on a load test, though.
I have to agree this sounds like a negative terminal issue. If the negative is getting hot you could have an open switch or a hot wire interfering with he negative. Trace all the wiring on the negative side from the battery to the starter. Make sure the grounds are secure.
