Those heimed shifter linkages can be finicky to get the balance between precision and a snappy return. I had to make several tweaks to mine to get a free return with minimal slop and no rattle. Can't remember exactly what I used but I know I ordered quite a few shims, washers, wave spings, and bushings from McMaster-Carr.

I'm looking for a good lubricant that will get up in where the shift lever shaft slides through the primary. I'm trying to get the shifter to be a little less sticky - it does not return as well as it used to. So sometimes i have to use my foot to finagle the shift lever before I can switch it into the next gear. I hope a good cleaning and lubricant is all that is needed.
