I wouldn't have an issue running a fixed wheel. We used to use http://www.mcwheel.com/ when they were more local to us. They have since moved almost across the country but they did a good job. I used to work in a shop that specialized in motorcycle chassis and suspension. We have a computrack machine that is used to measure frames. I would suggest there but it is a bit of a haul for you up here in MA. Not out of the question though. We get people from all over. It will pick up stuff you can't see by eye. If I were you I would look for something like that just to be sure the frame is good.

I'd don't think I'd be straightening the forks tho...think I'd be buying some new ones.

That really depends on many factors. Some you can straighten quite easily and have no issue. Depends on how bad of a bend and its location. The worse the bend the more likely it will have a wrinkle in it once its "straight" which would concern me especially if its where the slider would come over. It would be more likely to leak. If it were up near the triple clamp you can sometimes get away with the wrinkle if it's not bad. One of the things I never understood about Harley is why for the longest time they made heavy steel bikes and then supported the front with #2 pencils. It just says bend me.

Agreed. Straightening forks is no big deal as long as the bend is not too severe. Personally, though, I'd accept no wrinkling anywhere as it compromises the strength of the stanchion tube. Bends are OK; kinks are bad...

Trying to pull the triple tree. Looks like the wiring for the hand controls is threaded through a hole in the upper bracket. It further appears that there are connectors that will permit is a connector to detach the wiring so I can pull it through the bracket. Can't find the connector

To continue since the last inadvertently posted:
Trying to pull the triple tree. Looks like the wiring for the hand controls is threaded through a hole in the upper bracket. It further appears that there are connectors that will separate the harness to allow it to be pulled through the upper bracket . Can't find the connector, the harness disappears into the frame. The connectors are buried somewhere therein. The manual says you can pull the harness out to get at the connectors but first you have to create slack in the harness by unraveling the "service loop" at the rear of the frame. Found that immediately in front of the rear wheel behind a rubber panel, and after considerable tugging, managed to get some of it out. Was then able to get some of the wiring harness out of the front but still no sign of the connectors. Questions:
-How far down in the frame are the hand control connectors?
-How do I know if I've properly unraveled this "service loop"? How much comes out? Is it like entrails that one can keep pulling out until it spreads all over the floor?

Thanks for any insight you might be able to provide.

Well- never mind. After the post I went back to it and what do you know, the rest of the "loop" popped out and was able to pull as much as I wanted of the harness out of the front. As to all the rotten things I was thinking and saying to myself about HD and their products while trying to unravel this thing, I take it back.
