easiest way way for me to describe it is take the seat off, get the bike level on a flat surface, measure that you are 100% level by putting the inclinometer on the back/cross bone of the frame, zero it out by jacking the bike up or down on one side, I suggest the side stand side, use a small jack under side stand or foot peg...once zero out you know you frame is straight

move to rear wheel and put inclinometer on brake disc...what is your reading? If it’s zero your 100% aligned. If it’s not you have to turn the top engine mount in or out to zero It out. Once it’s zero your now properly aligned.

I usually do this two of three times just to make sure my reading are correct.
Awesome! I'll give this a shot tonight.

I hate to say this but it is a lot easier to do with the fuel tank removed, gives complete access to that top mount/linkage.

You can get brake clunk simply by having some play in the pads. My 17 RK does it.. It's possible that the brakes pads simply have too much play in the caliper. The spring clip might be damaged. I'd pull the pads and look a them and the brake pins. While pulley bolts were mentioned, what about brake rotor bolts? Also if you have buttoned rotors, the buttons may simply be loose,.

Default Solve for x?

Did you solve this yo? I too have a mysterious clunk that defies everything anyone has ever posted in any forum on the whole entire internet. I checked. Twice. And been over my FXDLS with many many... many fine toothed combs. I literally busted out the magnifying glass like I was Sherlock Holmes.

I can’t finger it out and it’s killing me inside, and also making me look stupid in front of my friends.

If you’re out there and you fixed it please share with us your knowledge.

Love,
Sterling

I've been doing some searching and will continue to do so but preparing for a long trip so trying to make sure my bike is in good order....

07 FXDB with around 50000 km (30k miles), had to brake hard for a light today. Did my best to get an understanding of it the rest of my ride. Happens at any speed if I lock up my back brake (can't get it to happen with the front brake, it won't lock up), clutch in or clutch out, and it definitely feels like the motor is shifting underneath me. Clunk sounds like it's coming from the left side but can't put my finger on exactly where.

i've been wondering if my motor mounts oughtta be replaced just due to the mileage on my bike and I get a vibration at high rpms. Would that be a logical solution? Front one looks a bit squished but I don't really know what I'm looking for. Can't get a good look at the rear, is there a trick for that?

Also worth noting front and rear suspension were both done over the winter so I don't think it's that. Head bearing was just recently adjusted (I WAS getting the clunk over bumps or with front brake applied but took care of that).

Any help would be great.
the Harley tech said that clunk is normal it’s coming from the transmission. I’m dealing with the same clunk clunk when applying hard emergency braking to the rear. I thought it was the abs but he claims it’s fine all the newer bikes do it. (According to him)
