Default Windshield angle question

Hi,

I just got a HD Soprt Shield for my FXDX and got it on after much cussing. Right now I have it prety straight up and down and it seems to do a good job. It sends the air right about the top of my helmet. It all seems good but it looks kinda odd. If I angled it back more would I just wind up with the turbulance hitting me in the face? I am 5'11" tall. Pictures of your set up are a pluss.

Ken (alias-Mr. Grumpy)

The anble of your windshield will change the way it deflects air. I had a heritage softtail years ago and experimented with the same thing you are asking about. I ended up riding with it sitting upright like yours. Just adjust it to where it looks good to you and try it. It will be different for everyone.

Thanks for the second vote for straight up. It is such a PITA to adjust that windshield that I don't want to keep at it if a bunch of guys all say the same as you. But if a bunch of guys think tha a certain angle is best then I'll get out tthe tools and comence to cussin' some more.

I put a shield on last night but there were no adjustments with the quick release so mine goes straight up for the most part and when I took it for a ride it deflected the wind great and im 6'!"

I was taught the windshield should be pretty much parallel to the forks and just about nose to upper lip level. If you get turbulence in that configuration, it is most likely coming up from underneath. Also if you have it straight up and down, you can really feel the trucks and trailers when you get around them--cheers--jack

Could you explain how the shield is adjustable or is it different mounts then mine.

Most have slotted mounting holes so you can tip it forward or backwards and they usually are slotted to go up or down also. Mine is a national and i can move it quite a bit but I can't speak to all windshield set-ups--cheers--jack
