i also wouldn't use a FRam on anything. i have been using AC PF-53s on my bike for over 20K miles. the H-D filter is a Purolator. harleys are not that precise that there filter is that special. the AC filter is under $4 and available anywhere. my closest dealer is 45 miles in any direction. i have 55K on the bike with Mobile 1 15W50 from the first change.

I just bought my first PF-53S. Usually run a Wix or the NAPA, made by Wix. You wouldn't have the Purolator part number handy, would you? Be interesting to see the price diff. Might even buy one of each & tear 'em apart to see if there is any differences to justify the HD price.

I found this information that another one of our members posted. Neat info. & nice to know that there is something to use in a pinch.

Read the posts on almost any board and they'll all complain about the quality of the Fram. I've tried an Amsoil filter, 2 of the 3 I bought have leaked. It's back to basic black HD for me next time around, about $8.00 or less at discount, bought in quantity. Don't really care if the filter is shiny or not, as long as it does what it is supposed to and this is one area where the MoCo seems to know what is best for their bikes.

I have been a WIX filter fan for years and years... Seems they are always rated in the top and they are available as WIX or NAPA...
I personally use the WIX 51214 (NAPA 1214)

Of course can't forget the twinkie filter:

This is all great advice for me... I am a first time owner and have a lot to learn. I have always driven Ford trucks and used the Motorcraft filters without any problems. Seems as if either WIX or the HD filter is the way to go though for the bike. Any obvious do's or dont's with brands of oil? Thanks.

Head on down to the Oil forum, and read 'til your eyeballs pop. Start at the top with the two "oil basics " articles.
