You could get a 1" shorter shock or get a rear lowering bracket from one of the forum sponsors. "Forum sponsors give a discount to members" Might want to consider lowering the front also to maintain the original handling geometry.

Thanks but I dont like the looks of brackets or trust them, much rather just buy the right shock. Wondering if dropping 1 inch will make it ride a lot rougher?

What is the reason for lowering?

Just sits high even though the swing arm is fairly level.

If it's just for looks I wouldn't lower it. If your short that's another thing. Shorter rear shocks will change the handling characteristics of your bike a bit and can make the ride rougher on uneven pavement. Also you'll have less lean when making faster turns.

I have plenty of ground clearance and dont think a 1/2" or 1" will make much difference, hopefully not much ride difference .

How much do you ride?? Is this a bar hopper or something you make miles on??

If a bar hopper is more your style, slam it. The effects of a lowered bike won’t effect you much.

If you are going to carve corners and make this something you ride miles on consider an upgraded/taller shock.

I would say for my 98 Dyna, it would be around 12 inches. Not sure if would change by year. Best bet would be to pull off your stock shock and measure it, then order one smaller.

Exactly! If you're not road racing it, don't worry about lowering the rear. I lowered mine with a lowering block kit. Pfft, works great! Very sturdily made. Lowers your bike 1". Amazon sells 'em for like $30.

I'm an old cruiser and have NO issues with my bike...rear dropped and a 21" front wheel.
