Default Ohlins from Motorcycle Metal

I’ve had the #3#3 shocks on my bike for a little over a year now. Even with the availability of other shocks now compared to a year or two ago I would buy these again from Howard. It was a little tough getting info about the shocks because I’m not that computer literate and the computers I had access to must not have been up to date and I had problems viewing Howard’s links. He would rather you do you your homework and educate yourself than to push a product on you that you may not be happy with. He emailed me all the info I was having trouble accessing and was patient with me while I made up my mind.
I would not have kept my dyna if I hadnt changed out the rear suspension. I’m around 275 in street clothes and the stock shocks were awful for me. Choppy and unpredictable in corners, bottomed out frequently causing issues with my back, and too short to get around corners without scraping everything. Once I installed the new shocks it was a night and day difference. You can really put the bike into the corners confidently without worrying about rear wheel hopping and slipping. The only bike I could compare the quality of ride to would be my 07 speed triple. I don’t think I’ve bottomed out the shocks once, even hitting a deep pothole or two. If I could only make one modification to the bike the rear shocks would be it. The only regret I have is not getting them a little longer. I was afraid of my bike looking like a dirt bike but really wish I had gotten them a bit longer. I still scape my 2into1 once in a while and I’m afraid to loose the quicker handling by raising the front too much. To any new riders out there get your suspension right before anything else, stage 1 can wait.

Since I purchased mine it seems a few other companies have jumped into the Harley performance suspension game. why would you go with another company when Öhlins have been building race suspension for so long?

Just ordered a set of Ohlins NIX30's from Howard. I should have them in a week or so. Have Ohlins Blackline piggybacks in the rear and love them. Currently have Gold Valves in the front, but want to try the Ohlins.

I would say got with the ones most rave about here. While not on a Dyna, I bought a set of #2 adjustables for an 17 RK. I liked the idea of the extra travel over the stock Ohlin 159s which I had on an 02 RKC (excellent shock). For some reason they are set up with way too much compression damping. I've had the compression damping dropped by a local shock rebuilder twice and have gone to 90/130 progressive springs. Stock springs were 142 lb (25N) While better they are still a bit stiff. Still a little sharper on the potholes than the set of Works I got on my EGC. I suspect that they are set up for 2 up riding with a tour pack but the RK is ridin solo and no tour pack. I understand that they can be set up as #3s pretty easy as the compression damping moves to shock body and they get much better. May try a set of the Russ Wernimont Shocks.
