Default O5 FXDCI (Lost Electrical)

I stopped at the bar to have a glass of milk and when I came out turned on the key waited for the fuel pump light to go off hit the starter and everything went black. Turned off the ignitionlet it down on the kickstand. Turned on the key itlit up,,,,, hit the start and it went black again. Turned off the key thenback on no lights but the speedo went up to 20 mph bouncing up and down the went up to 60 and turned off the key it jumped to 70 turned it back onthen dropped to 60 speedo turned it off still 60.hit the battery box and the lights came back on hit the starter fired up and made it home. I havent checked the battery connection yet but intend to first. I installed a battery cover 3 months ago and made sure the connections were tight on the battery never loosened them on the install. Have noticed before installing the cover, the bike would just die for a second and come back to life very intermittent. and only happened about 3-4times in8000 miles. Last time it did that speedo dropped to 0 so i figured it was electrical. Any Ideas ???? Could the battery have a intermittent internal short???? []Had to work late didn't ride today ....... Also have tried to start the bike 2 times about3 weeks ago and it acted like the battery was low as in the started was dragging hasn't happened for a while battery seemed fine after running around town for an hour. When I have power it spins up and fires right off. Runs like a scalded *** ape when I twist it up.

my 06 superglide is in the shop now, could be related. They determined it was the ignition switch. My bike was running when I acccidently hit the starter button, then it just died. I am STILL waiting for the part to come in, its been 10 days. I'm gonna call again tomorrow. I'm going into withdrawals.

Check and make sure that you ground wire to you battery is tight. Not sure about the speedometer thing but hitting the switch and everything going off sounds like a ground problem. good luck.

Sounds like a bad battery , when running does the headlight dim and exhaust backfire , well a friends bikes was doing that and it turned to be a bad battery.

I had a problem with my '06 the other day. Out for a night ride, headlights dimming to point that I lost all lights altogether. Pulled off, parked it, went got the trailer. When I went to start it to ride onto the trailer, similar problem to yours..... everything fine until I hit starter and then dead.

Verdict from the guys at the shop.... loose battery bolt for negative wire. It was shorting out on the inside of the battery cover.

Last month i got a notice in the mail from Harley for a recall on something to do with the bolt that holds down the battery , it becomes loose and pushes into the battery , never happen bought i brought it in to fix, maybe when that bolt becomes loose and the battery starts to move causing the terminal's to also loosin up ?

I had the exact same thing for a while last week. I spent about two days with a meter looking for any possible bad ground. The only thing I found (and I checked everything 2-3 times) was a couple of pins not seated properly in the packard connector that goes to the speedo. Looked like they were able to touch intermitenly at the back of the connector. I reseated the pins and have had no trouble since. But, I'm more inclined to believe now that the fix was more about getting my hands on all the connections and making sure they were tight. One wierd thing that happened, the speedo acted as if the motor inside it was trying to turn with the key off, lasted for a few minutes then quit. Every time you turned the key off. Did not happen with key in run. I know this isn't much in the way of help but, your the first person I've seen with the exact problem to the letter that I had, if I can help anyway let me know.

One other quick thing, if you do have power at times ( I didn't, last time it went dark it stayed that way till I messed with everything) try pulling the trouble codes. Might be able to narrow down were to start looking.
