Default Aftermarket Grips

I've got some Biltwell grips that I'm going to put on my new FMB bars but there's not quite enough room. Once I have the stock lever mount and switch pod on the bars the remaining exposed bar is about a 1/2" short. Anyone else run into this? How did you fix it. I'm thinking maybe I should just weld a short piece of iron to the end of the bars but I'm looking for an easier solution if there is one.

I posted this in another thread, but the way I asked the question was ****ed up so no one replied.

On both grips the bars are 1/2" short?

Yup. I'm really only worried about the clutch side since the throttle tube provides rigidity on the right.

The shortage looks like it's caused by 2 things. First, there's an inside flange on the new grips (https://www.biltwellinc.com/collecti...pv-grips-black) so they don't go under/inside the switch housing and second, the weld where the 1" tube for the grips goes into the 1.5" tube is kind of big so I can't seat the lever bracket flush.

I'd probably grind the inside lip of the housing bracket so that you can slide it over that weld. It would look cleaner not to show that size transition.

Yeah I thought of that but one slip (which I do a lot, unfortunately) and there goes that beautiful powder coat. I would feel more comfortable doing something on the end of the bar where it'll be covered by the grip.

Just glue it on and ride. 1/2” won’t matter.

I saw your other thread, thought it was worded OK but I never had this problem so I didn't answer the question.

I've got to agree with RANGER73 here. If it is only 1/2" no big deal.

You're just probably overly worrying these things, squirt some glue on 'em like Ranger says, mash 'em on, do your best, go for a ride and don't be easy on it, you gotta put these things to the test!

Come report back if it all goes well; if we don't hear from you, well, we'll understand.

I couldn't wait to get moving getting the bike back together so here's what I did. I had some of these hard foam do-dads laying around from a project. I made a measurement of the length i needed, cut it and stuffed it into the end of the grip. It's still not rigid but it's good enough.

And here's a few angles of the bars.
