I liked the 57's from 3000rpm on up, but felt they were a little weak on the low end. I'm finding I don't rev much past 5k rpm's, which is where these cams really shine, as they pull to redline. From the scouring of dyno charts, the 222's look like they fit the bill. Almost went with the Andrews 48's, but from all the dyno charts I've seen, the 222's have a very similar low end to the 48's, but the 222's carry out a little farther up the rev range.

Once installed, the bike will be visiting my local tuner.
I have the 222's and very happy with them, better low and top end then the stock, most of my riding is below 3k and they are great for that.

I have a set of 57's in my 96. I chose them so if i upgrade i can still use them, Several tuners in my area say they really shine with a compression bump to 10.4 tp 10.5 to 1.
At the present time I have a 4 degree advanced gear in it as well. I can stay with stock 103's. It has a lopey idle which sounds great. I also built a set of 2-1 pipes for the bike. nice low idle but she barks when ya twist the wick, I have the TTS tuning module and am planning on a 106 S&S pistons and my cylinders bored and honed to fit the pistons. I want to also have my heads done to match. the throttle body will be bored and 4,9 injectors to be added to the mix. My tuner of choice was taught by Steve Cole and resides in my home state.

According to two different calculators my CCP would be in the 195-198 range, my tuner said no worries so I guess that is the way I am going to go. The guy that will do my heads is under the weather now with Covid 19, so when he gets back to me , we will decide if I keep the cam or open the heads up from 85 ccs to 86-87 ccs. Still planning but idf I cant accomplish this as a 106, then I will try a 104 build.

The tuners I have talked to say that cam can go up to 10.2 but some push it to 10.4. 10.5 I would think would be way to high. I've got mine at 10.0 and thought about 10.2 but 10.5 sounds a bit far.

A 107 with 10.45:1 compression and an Andrews 57H with a 4 degree key comes out to 10.45 static, 9.85 corrected, and 208 ccp. Take out the key and the corrected drops to 9.71 and 204 ccp. Stay under 10.25 static with no key to stay under 200 ccp. I'd suggest some flat top pistons that match your cylinder boring and .045 head gaskets. Did you have your heads cc'd? If you're go by the HD claim of 85 cc heads you may be surprised when they get measured. Most are closer to 88 cc. If they are the 88 cc then just use the flat top pistons and .030 head gaskets instead.

Jay.
I have spent the past few days thinking about what you posted. You are right, but you based your results on a 107 at sea level. I agree with taking out the 4 degree advanced gear and put the original gear back in it. I also spoke with S&S about the piston I want to use. Its a flat top 106 piston with valve cutouts that have a CC of -1.5 of Piston Dome Volume. I heard back from my head porter and he said that a compression ratio of 10.2 to 10,5 would be fine if the tune was right, and he could set my head CC's to what ever I wanted, based on info we exchanged. I want my heads to be set at 86 CC's so I can use a .030 head gasket. Now for my tuner, this guy specializes in the TTS tuner that I have. In fact he worked with Steve Cole when TTS was involved with figuring out the base maps for the M8. He was the one that told me that the Andrews 57 could handle 10.5 compression ratio, I am looking now at 10.3 compression ratio. And this tuner lives 150 miles from me. Now I also understand that none of the above will come to pass if my crankshaft runout is greater than 005. That's what a few engine builders have told me. If that's the case it's time to buy a used crank and send it to Darkhorse and let them do their magic on it. And no, I am not an engine builder at all, so I asked for advise and I am posting now but do not want a pissing contest and I see you have an Andrews 37 in your bike. I also saw that you set your compression ratio to 10.0. Now is your bike a bit doggy down low? My 57 in my 96 is a bit choppy but it isn't that doggy down low either, I am in the process of buying parts for this build and I have a long way to go. I appreciate your comments though and your info is duly noted. Thank you.

It was doggy down low when the compression was at 8.9 but since getting it up to 10.0 it comes on a lot sooner. I would expect in a stock 96 engine the 57 would dog down low. You're at around 9.1 static and 8.5 corrected. No pissing contest, just offering advice based on my experience and discussions I had with other engine builders.

same same.

honestly for what you’re trying to accomplish there are much better(tuner friendly) cams that were designed to see higher compression. It’s my understanding that the 57 was developed as a “drop in”.

Talking around, the 10-10.5 compression range a lot of people have moved to the TW-777 or something like the Rocket Cam 274. I figure they are minor differences or gain over the 57 though. I think it's still a solid choice.
