Went for a ride yesterday on my 06 street bob and after a brief 20 minute stop I turned the key and got nothing.. no lights, nothing. The only thing is that the speedo was ticking ever so slightly when I removed the key or set the key to accessories. Put the battery on a charger and tried again but still nothing.
Use a meter to test the fuses, sometimes they look ok but are blown.
Agree, thought I suspect big fuse would be noticible.
But you are going to need a meter anyways. Start looking at easy spots to see if have power. Though some point going to need a drawing.
I would check the battery side of the main fuse first, easy too. I carry an extra fuse, though never needed it. They don't supply spare main. Probably because if it blows, the average person should not replace it.
I would check the ground connection since nothing works and fuses seem ok. Not to insult, but I assume it was not in gear with the clutch out sort of thing, right? Checking all possibilities. Check batt terminals to make sure clean and tight. Oh wait, you pulled the batt to have it checked I bet, disregard that part.
Good luck.
People have an obsession with grounds with it comes to electrical. It takes 2 to wires to make things work. Has anybody had a bad frame ground in the last 30 years on something built in the last 30 years? I am sure they have, but not prevelant as people think I suspect.
I get the point since everything is out, it has to be a lost + or - near source.
Depend on if O'reilly load tested the battery. On a 12 volt system, the load should not drop below 9.6 Volts, when cranking. The battery can say 12 volts when under load, but hen drop to say 2 volts when cranking. that is a bad battery so if they are seeing 12 volts but not under load, it is an incomplete test IMO. this is how I 'backyard or street test my batteries, I will test the surface charge, then crank it over with lights on etc(which the lights are always on on a bike...like said you are looking for no less than 9.6 when cranking.
