I got caught in the rain on my 07 WG this afternoon for the first time (on this bike). I looked down at the speedo and realized it wasn't working. The key light, fuel light, and the engine run light were all illuminated but the speedo needle registered 0 and the odometer wasn't clicking off mileage. I figure something got wet somewhere, but the question is where? Any ideas?
Hi there.
I had water in my speedo - never stopped working but all the lights came on/ went off when they should not have. Told the dealer he said it was normal and they all did it. I said my brothers doesn't (same bike 07 Street Bob). I asked if he'd put it in writting that it was normal and said - "look, all the lights work wrong the speedo is steamed up, it's an electrical componant - if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, floats and quacks like a duck chances are it's an effing duck. It's faulty"-
So he ordered me a new speedo which I'm still waiting for - fair enough...
Water in speedos is not normal, especially electrical ones, even old Brit Smiths speedos managed to stay water tight if nowt else!
Ask for new speedo, don't know the rules over there on this but I'd find out your rights, be polite, stick to your guns and make 'em have it!
Thanks. I shrink wrapped the connections under the dash this weekend. I can't see that I got water inside the speedo but that's something I didn't think about. Cheers.
