Real quick if anyone knows, what brake fluid with these calipers? Theres conflicting info on the internet and I dont have the original packaging. I saw DOT4 on the sport bike online shops, but not sure if thats because what the OEM sport bike should be running.
Someone else mentioned someone about DOT5 destroying seals.....Thanks!
Guess I found it: All brembo braking products use natural-rubber base seals, and therefore are INCOMPATIBLE with DOT-5 SILICONE-based brake fluids. DOT- 5 SILICONE-based fluids react with natural-rubber seals to swell them WHICH CAN CAUSE SEVERE PISTON RETRACTION PROBLEMS. There is no cure for problems caused by DOT- 5 use other than complete seals replacement - USE ONLY DOT-3/4 NON-SILICONE TYPE FLUIDS such as CASTROLTM 'LMA' in your brembo components.(Yes, we know the cap on the rectangular master cylinders says "DOT 3 - 5 Fluids"-BUT PLEASE NOTE: Silicone DOT- 5 fluids are NOT generally in use in Europe, but Glycol-based "DOT-5.1" fluids ARE. Hence, the "DOT-5" cap designation).
You can always do a simple experiment to find out what brake fluid you have. The results are based on the fact that DOT 5 brake fluid cannot be mixed with anything other than DOT 5 fluid.
Take a small sample, say 1 ml, of your existing brake fluid. Add an equal amount of either DOT 4 OR DOT 5 fluid to it. Be aware that DOT 5 is not the same as DOT 5.1 brake fluid.
If you added DOT 4 to your existing brake fluid and it turned into a gel then your existing brake fluid is DOT 5.
If you added DOT 5 to your existing brake fluid and it turned into a gel then your existing brake fluid is DOT 4
If nothing happened when you mixed them then they are compatible (DOT 4 with DOT 4, DOT 5 with DOT 5, DOT 4 with DOT 5.1)
yup! Total makeover on the bike (well, paint, new shocks and brakes). My paint hook up has had all of my tins for a couple of weeks, but legit caught COVID in the middle of painting lol.
Im like ehhhh you hang on to them, Ill see you in a few weeks haha.
