new to me 99
I found this one on FB 1.5 hrs away, has 29k on it. Gave $3500 for it. Not the steal of the year, but not a bad price either I thought.
I only was able to get in about a 10-15 miles ride today due to weather. Motor feels real strong, carb has a couple hick up spots. figure the jets may need cleaned, or might get by with just some seafoam and fresh gas. Guy I bought from said he had it for 2 years, but didn't know anything about it, He only put 2k miles on it while owning it, bike looked like it had been sitting for a while. Back brakes are not very strong, may need pads are fresh fluid. Tires are also 11 years old (according to date code) and still have plenty of tread, not ridden much. I'm sure the rubber is hard as a rock
Anything particular I should check out on this bike?
I have not had a Dyna in about 15 years, i'm looking forward to playing with this thing some.
since he didn't know anything about it, I figure I had better check to see if the cam bearings have been replaced (99 issue) while i'm in there I might as well upgrade the cams.
Have 2 questions for you guys,
1.when doing the cams, what changes are needed to the carb (Larger Jets?)
2. What is everyone using to extend forward controls a few inches. I forgot how small the leg room is on these bikes.

2) The carb needs to be pulled apart and cleaned. Even if it seems okay you will probably see a huge difference after.
3) consider flushing the brake system. Probably has never been done or at least not in a long time.
4) Check everything else carefully. Sounds like that bike has sat way too long.
You have a good ride there. The 99 had the forged crank. Solid bottom end on it. Keep the top fresh and the cam tensioners fresh and replace the bearings and you will be golden.
